The first gameplay trailer for Square Enix's Nier Reincarnation has now arrived. It's a made-for-mobile adventure game that you might remember being announced during Nier's 10th-anniversary celebration.

All we had to go on when we covered it late last month was a brief teaser trailer and the game's barebones site.

So what does the gameplay show us? Well, a lot of wandering about, which might come as a slight disappointment to fans of the typically action-packed series. It definitely looks the part, mind, with some stunning vistas and a grand sense of scale to its world.

I'd honestly be up for Nier sans the combat. While Automata's was a sizable improvement over the first game's, the action isn't what most people remember fondly about either title. Ditching Automata's open-world padding would also be nice while we're at it. That being said, it could be the case that Square is saving a combat trailer for a later date.

One thing likely to upset long-time fans is that Nier Reincarnation will probably be a free-to-play game. Destructoid was first to translate info on the game's official site, which lists its monetisation model as "item charge system: basic play free".

Nier series creator Yoko Taro is certainly no stranger to the world of mobile gaming, with his long-awaited mobile RPG SINoALICE set to launch globally on July 1st. Characters from the Nier series will be brought into SINoALICE as part of a two-chapter crossover event.

Applibot is the developer behind Reincarnation. You might know them from RPG Blade Xlord or rhythm action game Seven's Code. CyDesignation, who also worked on Automata and Granblue Fantasy, has handled the character designs.

We still don't have a solid release date, but we do know that Nier Reincarnation will launch for both iOS and Android.
