Snake Rivals is a fast-paced PvP game where everyone's playing as a giant, colourful snake. It sees up to 50 players battling it out to become the largest serpent of the lot. The game comes to us from developer Supersolid, and it launches globally today for iOS and Android devices.

The basic idea is that you'll work your way around a colourful arena, eating tasty apples and pellets as you go. The more you eat, the larger you'll grow. What keeps that basic formula fresh is the number of game modes on offer here.

You can damage and gradually destroy rival snakes in the intense Battle Royale mode, or work to master weapons and special manoeuvres in the endless Classic mode. The latter in particular allows you to grow your snake to a tremendous size, meaning the challenge stems more from trying to smash personal records than your opponents. Then there's the Gold Rush mode which requires you to collect as much gold as possible within a strict three-minute countdown.

To keep things interesting, you can hunt down special power-ups for fun effects. As you progress, you'll unlock more and more characters including Bonez the Skeleton, Long Fang the Thunder Dragon, and Uniconda the Unicorn. There's also the option to customise your snake to your preferences. Creating your own original snake sounds like it could be neat, with the option to select from a number of body parts, wearables, and accessories.

Snake Rivals certainly sounds like a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to giving it a go myself later on today. If it's your sort of thing, too, you'll find it available for download now from both the App Store and Google Play.
