zCube is an RTS strategy game from Game Dev Team that's inspired by PC titles of years gone by. It's also played on a giant cube, with each different face acting as a new area to build bases and initiate skirmishes on. It's available now for iOS and Android.

It's a spin on the usual fog of war type mechanic where you'd normally have to send scouts into the fog to gain vision. In zCube this works similarly except that you'll have to venture to the edge of each face of the cube so the map rotates to get reveal what is happening on other sides of the map.

It's a neat idea and helps the game stand out a little from other RTS games. Beyond that, it seems to be everything you'd expect from the genre. You'll be capturing various sectors, gathering resources and researching new tech.

As you can see in the trailer above, it appears to have a very clean interface with block colours that make different units easy to pick out. Allied units are blue whilst the enemy sports red, meaning that even in the more screen-filling battles you should be able to see what's occurring on the battlefield.

The game has launched with 25 missions to battle your way through. Additionally, you'll be able to set up a custom game with either 1v1 or 2v2 options. The AI is apparently pretty challenging so it should hopefully scratch that strategic itch for more veteran players.

Game Dev Team is reasonably well-known for creating a series of strategy games called MechCom. This is doesn't look entirely dissimilar, so if you're a fan of those titles then you'll probably get a lot of out of their zCube. zCube is available now through the App Store and Google Play. It's a premium game that costs £0.99.
