Old School Runescape Mobile is set to hit both iOS and Android stores this week. And since it's our featured game, we wanted to make sure that you're up to speed with everything you need to know about the game before it lands.
That's why we've written this article, which we hope is going to answer all of the questions you have about the game. Don't worry if it doesn't though, just stick a comment at the bottom of the page with any queries that remain unresolved and we'll do our best to answer.
If you need a little more grounding in the world then you can check out our preview of the mobile version right here. Or, if you need to understand just how big RuneScape is, check out our report from RuneFest, the annual RuneScape convention, right here.
And make sure you keep a close eye on our Old School Runespace Mobile hub here, because we'll be posting even more awesome content over the next few days. Right then, let's get this show on the road, shall we?
What is Old School Runescape MobileA fine question to get us started. It's the mobile version of Old School Runescape. A few years ago (2013 to be precise) the RuneScape MMO became two games. There's RuneScape, which gets all the finery, and Old School Runescape, which is based on the 2007 version of the game, and is controlled by the players.
How so? Well, 75% of the players in a vote need to agree with new content before it goes live in the game. This isn't some retro, rose-tinted look back, it's a massive game that's updated regularly. And because of the architecture it's based on, it's perfect for mobile.
That's because 2007 internet speeds were nothing compared to today, so all the information the game sends out while you're online doesn't take up much of your data plan. You're not going to need a super powerful phone to run the game either, which is always a good thing if you ask us.
What device will I need to play Old School RuneScape Mobile? For iOS you're going to need to be running iOS 10 or higher, and you're going to need at least an iPhone 5s or iPad Mini 2. If you're playing on Android, then you're going to need to have Android 5.0 or higher on your device. Something with similar power to the 5s should run it no problem.
How much will Old School Runescape Mobile cost? It's not going to cost you anything to download the game, but you will need to become a member if you want to get the most out of it. That'll set you back from £6.99 / £10.99 a month, up to £62.99 / $99.99 for a whole year. The membership doesn't just give you access to Old School Runescape Mobile though, it lets you take your Old School adventures across any platform, as well as giving you access to RuneScape too.
Is Old School Runescape Mobile cross platform? It is. You can log-in on your phone, play for a while, then head to your PC to continue your session. It's the same world, the same characters, and the same other people you're going to be bumping into. If you've been playing Old School RuneScape for a while, then you're going to be able to load the game on your phone and have precisely the same experience you would have on your PC.
When is Old School Runescape Mobile coming out?Well, ostensibly it's set to come out tomorrow, October 31st, but that isn't set in stone, and we may have heard some rumblings that we can't mention here because we'd get into trouble. Let's just say check back here later on and we'll be able to tell you more.
If you want to pre-order the game for iOS in the meantime, you can do just that by clicking right here. And if you want to pre-register for the Android version, you can do that with just one click right here.
