[Update] Sony releases the PlayStation App for Android and iOS in the US
|
Updated on November 26th, at 15:00: As predicted below, the PlayStation App is now live in the UK on the App Store [download] and Google Play [download].

Just as a reminder, Sony will launch the PS4 in the UK on November 29th.

Original story follows...

If I were cool and it were, say, 2008, this post might begin with the following statement: 'Yo, dawg, I hear you like PlayStation and smartphones, so I've put a PlayStation App on your smartphone so you can PlayStation while you smartphone.'

I'm not, though. And it isn't.

The PlayStation App is now available to download from the App Store and the Google Play Store in the US, enabling you to take your PS4 experience with you wherever you go.

With the PlayStation App, you can check and send messages; browse the PSN Store; and take advantage of the second-screen functionality in games that support it.

Plus, you can use your phone as a keyboard when you're typing on the PS4. If the keyboard on Sony's new console is anything like the one on the PS3, that's very good news. Microsoft: take note.

The PlayStation App is free to download, but obviously you'll need a PS4 and a PSN account to make use of it.

We expect Sony will be launching the app in the UK closer to the PS4's November 29th release date on this side of the Pond. Yes, we'll let you know as soon as it goes live on the relevant app stores.

Well done, you've found the competition code - now make sure you go and enter before the closing date!
