Thanks in part to the likes of True Blood and Twilight, vampires are filling an ever-increasing variety of roles in modern mobile games.

While we're used to seeing them as dark anti-heroes or nefarious villains, we have very rarely seen them as doddering innocents in need of our protection.

Cardboard Box Entertainment's Vampires! looks to change all of this by putting the player in charge of guiding legions of tottering vampires around traps and rays of sunlight as they meander aimlessly towards their crypts.

Fangs for the memories

The core gameplay of Vampires! revolves around manipulating the environment of the stage in a new twist on the Lemmings style of puzzle game.

As the vampires shuffle toward their crypts, players will have to help them avoid traps like rotating mirrors and mobile wooden stakes, along with pursuing vampire hunters who are looking to send the vampires to bed for good.

Gameplay takes place over 65 levels rendered in lush, 3D graphics and players will have six different types of vampire – each with their own unique patterns of behavior – to keep tabs on.

This is no word on pricing or a firm release date, but Cardboard Box Entertainment expects to launch the game for iOS and Android by the end of 2012. PC and Mac versions are planned as well, with playable demos available on the developer's website.
