Open source, programmable controller iControlpad 2 turns to Kickstarter for funding
Control your phone, computer, or robot
The iControlpad 2, a new open source controller from the team that brought us the original iControlpad, has turned to Kickstarter for funding.
Like its predecessor, the iControlpad 2 can be used on both Android and iOS devices, but because the iControlpad 2 connects via Bluetooth and features a completely programmable QWERTY keyboard, its uses don’t end there.
It can also be used to interface with a computer, set-top TV box, or hobby projects that involve robotics or remote controls.
Of course, for us, we're most excited about its gaming applications.
Featuring a full five-row keyboard in addition to two analog sticks, the iControlpad 2 also boasts a directional pad, 4 standard gaming buttons (A, B, X, Y) and two shoulder buttons as well.
The wave of the future?Additionally, and like the original, the iControlpad 2 features a phone holder clip that will support devices as large as the Samsung Galaxy Note.
Despite its robust suite of features, the iControlpad 2 faces a long and uncertain road to its funding goal of $150,000.
This past summer, the Bladepad and Coco Controller both leveraged Kickstarter to crowdsource their new smartphone controllers, but both campaigns fell well short of their marks.
Hopefully, the iControlpad 2 will find enough support amongst mobile gamers and DIY enthusiasts to enjoy a successful Kickstarter campaign.
