iPhone 4S appears on Japanese Apple site with October 14th launch, disappears

Apple's Tim Cook is currently onstage at the Town Hall venue in the company's headquarters Infinite Loop preparing to introduce a new device. But somebody has beaten him to it.
The iPhone 4S has appeared on – and subsequently disappeared from – the Japanese Apple site, with a launch date of October 14th.
The 4S is one of two iPhone models rumoured to be announced today.
