PSP 2 developers hint at Christmas 2011 launch

According to gaming website VG247, a ‘British source familiar with the matter’ reports that developers and publishers have been told PSP 2 will launch late in 2011.

Like the PSP go before it, the PSP 2 is becoming the worst kept secret in gaming history. Sony is still yet to announce the platform officially, but developers have been bean-spilling intently for months now.

In May, there was a furore of speculation leading up to E3, with various UK developers admitting they were working on games for the system, and that dev kits had been around for for a while.

Last month, Mortal Kombat developer Netherrealm Studios let it drop that it's had a PSP 2 for a while now, and that it “looks like a pretty powerful machine”.

When quizzed on the possibilities of the new handheld, Sony’s Michael Denny only stated that the firm doesn’t have “anything to announce,” and that PSP is still “a very attractive proposition”.

Recent rumours on Spong suggest the PSP 2 will be out in April, around the same time as the 3DS.
