Nintendo quashes rumours of DS redesign
Although not thoroughly enough to shut us up
There's been a recent flurry of speculation – some of it visionary - concerning the rumoured debut of a DS redesign at July's E3 expo, after Hirokazu Hamamura of Enterbrain suggested that there was a "possibility" of such a thing.
The suggestion of a hint of an insinuation of an implication of a possibility would normally be too hazy for even news-hungry bloggers to pounce upon, but the fact that it came from Enterbrain, which publishes the respected Japanese video game magazine Weekly Famitsu, gave it a bit of substance.
Alas, it seems that even the impression of substance is false, as Nintendo has told video game site Eurogamer that the redesign is "purely rumour and speculation".
Let's take a look at the language used, though. Had Nintendo just said, "rumour and speculation," we'd be entitled to say, "yep, and how much is it going to cost?" but the inclusion of the word "purely" would seem to imply that there really is nothing behind the rumour. It's "purely" speculation, and nothing else.
But then, why confuse the issue? Why not just say, "Nintendo will certainly not be introducing a DS redesign"?
Even if Nintendo had said that, of course, it wouldn't stop us all speculating.
