Sega 'classic' Altered Beast released on iPhone

Sega’s mission to re-release its back catalogue on iPhone and iPod touch continues today with the launch of Altered Beast.

Altered Beast is a side-scrolling arcade beat-'em-up originally released in 1989. It tells the story of a shape-shifting centurion who's been raised from the dead by Zeus in order to rescue his daughter Athena from the Demon God Neff.

It sees you defeating hordes of enemies and overcoming five boss battles in which Neff takes a different form each time.

True to the original, it's a two-player affair. Bluetooth support has been added so that two players can unite to defeat Neff.

Altered Beast was an impressive spectacle at the time of its release and the game is remembered more or less universally, if not particularly fondly. It's available for £1.79 / $2.99.
