Air Twister releases onto Apple Arcade after being announced earlier this month

After being announced earlier this month, Yu Suzuki’s latest project Air Twister has officially launched exclusively on Apple Arcade. The legendary developer’s new game sees you going on an endless shooting 3D adventure as Princess Arch, fighting off alien invaders to defend your home planet.

First off, we should discuss who Yu Suzuki is. While we did discuss it in the earlier article about Air Twister, for those of you who missed it, Suzuki is the mastermind behind one of the most influential games of all time; Shenmue. Shenmue originally launched on the Dreamcast and, without exaggeration, changed the gaming industry forever. Noted as one of the first 3D open-world games created, it especially inspired the popular Yakuza series that has seen much success in recent years. Now, after a long and very successful career, Suzuki has set his sights on making the endless shooter of his dreams.

And that dream comes in the shape of Air Twister, a wild-looking and frantically paced 3D adventure shooter that will take you through all sorts of environments. The plot is, unsurprisingly given Suzuki’s tendency for the absurd, a bit of an oddball. You’ll take up the role of Princess Arch in a war against an alien invasion, throughout which you’ll have to defend your home planet’s population of uh…Giant swans? Honestly sure, why not. Suzuki has done so much for games that if his dream game involves Giant swans, I can give it a pass I think.

The gameplay is pretty self-explanatory, and will mostly take you on a ride through a ton of different 3D locales as you shoot up a huge amount of aliens that will be taking over your screen. There will be a few challenges to shake up the experience here and there but at the end of the day, this is a very retro title inspired by the likes of games like Panzer Dragoon or Crimson Dragon, so you know what you’re in for.
