A new twist on Scrabble

While us Europeans wait to see if Scrabble will ever be released for iPhone over here, at least there's a host of word games vying to replace it. The latest is Spindrift Software's Wordtouch.

In a way, it's like Scrabble mixed with a match-three puzzle game mechanic. You're presented with several rows of letters – each with its own points value – and you have to make high-scoring words from the top row only.

However, when you use a tile, it's replaced by the one below it, meaning you have to look at the whole board when planning your strategy. Clear an entire column or the whole board, and you score extra.

It looks neat and fun, although it'd be nice to have some form of online high-score tables, or even a challenge mode where you and a friend start with the same board and see who scores best.

That's just us being wishful-thinking though. If you want to check out Wordtouch, it's available on the App Store now for £2.99.
