LoL: Wild Rift Garen guide: Best build, items, and combos
Updated: October 14, 2022

Garen will be the star of today's Wild Rift guide, so if you were looking for a champion that will let you stomp your enemies in style and spin over their dead bodies, chances are you've found it. The Might of Demacia is one of the easiest, most fun champions out there, who can really

This champion is ideal in most situations, because he's fairly strong in 1v1 scenarios, has a lot of sustain (thanks to his passive and Skill 2), and can deal quite a lot of damage if you build him like a fighter instead of a tank. I really believe that Garen can carry a team by being useful in team fights, being able to split push to an extent, and having the ability to deal plenty of damage to objectives.

In this League of Legends: Wild Rift Garen guide you'll find everything you need to know about the champion, from his skills and how to allocate them to his build, skill combo, and runes. This is what you will find in the Garen guide below:

You are probably wondering if Garen is a meta champion. This is your lucky day, we made a Wild Rift tier list to assist you.

League of Legends: Wild Rift Garen skills

Perseverance (Passive)

If Garen has not recently been struck by damage or enemy abilities, he regenerates a percentage of his total health each second.

Decisive Strike (Skill 1)

Garen gains a burst of movement speed, breaking free of all slows affecting him. His next attack strikes a vital area of his foe, dealing bonus damage and silencing them.

Courage (Skill 2)

Garen reduces damage taken for a short time, and gains bonus resistance to crowd control.

Judgment (Skill 3)

Garen rapidly spins his sword around his body, dealing physical damage to nearby enemies. Enemies hit by the bladestorm's edge are critically struck.

Demacian Justice (Skill 4 / Ultimate)

Garen calls upon the might of Demacia to attempt to execute an enemy champion, dealing damage in an area around his target.

How to combo as Garen

Garen has no particular combos, but his Skill 1 can reset his auto-attack cooldown, so you can try to use that to your advantage. His kit is pretty easy to understand and execute because Garen has no skill shots that require aiming.

Some powerful "combos" (that are not exactly combos per se) would be:

Auto-attack - Skill 1 - auto-attack - Skill 3

That combo will allow you to chase opponents with Skill 3, and because of the Silence effect from Skill 1 chances are they won't be able to get away, and they'll die. You could also use Flash to catch unexpecting opponents, then hit them with Skill 1 and quickly shift into Skill 3 for more damage.

In what order to level up the skills?

In Wild Rift Garen's typical skill maxing order is Skill 1, then Skill 3, and finally Skill 2. However, if the situation requires, and you're too far behind, you could max Skill 2 for additional defense as your second skill, after Skill 1.

  • Level 1: Skill 1
  • Level 2: Skill 3
  • Level 3: Skill 2
  • Level 4: Skill 1
  • Level 5: Skill 4
  • Level 6: Skill 1
  • Level 7: Skill 1

Keep leveling Skill 1 until it's maxed, then focus on Skill 3, then on Skill 2, or if you are behind and need a little bit more sustain during the laning phase (or fights even), you could max out Skill 2 after Skill 1. Add a point to Skill 4 (ultimate) whenever it's available.

Wild Rift Garen - The best summoner spells

Ignite: Ignites target enemy champion, dealing 60-410 true damage (based on level) over 5 seconds and inflicting them with Grievous Wounds. (Grievous Wounds reduces healing effects by 50%).

Flash: Teleport a short distance forward or towards the aimed direction.

Wild Rift Garen the best build

wild rift garen guide- item build

On Garen you could pretty much build anything - AD, Fighter items, Crit, maybe even AP (I honestly don't know because I haven't tried that). However, this would be somewhat of an all-rounded build, which gives both decent damage and sustainability in fights.

If you want, you could try to swap out some of the items for more damage-heavy ones, but I really believe Garen is at his best when he's got a rather tanky build on.

Boots

The Glory enchantment is the best choice because it allows Garen to chase and lockdown enemies much easier.

Additionally, you could switch between Boots of SwiftnessMercury Threads, or Ninja Tabis as the base, depending on what your opponents are playing and what you need the most (Magic Resistance or  Armor).
