Warlords Classic HD, a new iPad port of turn-based strategy title Warlords, has just taken up residence on the App Store.

If you can still remember the days of floppy discs and DOS prompts, you might recall this RPG-inflected battle sim when it first appeared back in 1989.

Played out over a single map, up to eight players must compete to become ruler of Illuria - a land filled with warring races, ancient ruins, and hidden treasures.

Whether you choose to command the Elves of Elvallie, the Sirian Knights, or any of the remaining six factions, you're going to have to train up your Heroes, decide which city you like the look of, and then get your conquering hat on.

Old dog, new tricks

A few tweaks have been made to the old formula in the past 20 years, so veterans might want to check out the instruction manual to acclimatise themselves to the New Order.

Though an iPhone version has been kicking around the App Store since 2010, this is the first time iPad users have been able to get in on the action.

Warlord Classic HD is available on iPad for the introductory price of £1.49 / $1.99 now.
