Announced quite some time ago, the roguelike hack-n-slash from developer Kyle Barret of Immortal Rogue and Blast Waves fame, Ultra Blade, finally has a solid release date. Come February 23rd, you’ll be taking on endless hordes of goons using a ton of different weapon and character combos, each offering up a unique way to play this survival roguelike mix.

Ultra Blade seeks to meet in the middle of something like Vampire Survivors and 20 Minutes Until Dawn, using the upgrade structure of Vampire Survivors while utilising the more active control scheme of 20 Minutes. It makes for a pretty awesome-looking roguelike survival game, and combined with the lovely 2D pixel art style, there’s a lot to dig into here.

You take on the role of a hero character of your choice, of which there are quite a few on launch to pick from, and use their massive swords to slice and dice your way through the hordes of nameless enemies coming your way. As you progress through the level, you’ll come across a huge variety of upgrades that will force you to change up your playstyle each run.

For example, one upgrade might cause your sword to deal more crit damage each swing, while another might make it shoot projectiles in a wave after you swing it and everything in between. Some are just passive stat buffs, but others can really swap up your gameplay, making every time you play a different experience entirely. Given how expertly Barret crafted a roguelike with Immortal Rogue, it’s safe to say they know what they’re doing with this one as well.

If you want to give it a go yourself, you can do so come February 23rd, but until then, you can also pre-order the game at either of the links below this article!
