Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen coming to mobile

Glu gets another movie licence in disguise

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen coming to mobile

Movie tie-ins tend to suck. Sounds harsh, this is true, but what else can you say after the slew of trite, big name games we're forced to continually suffer?

To be honest, this probably isn't even the game developers' fault. There's a sheer weight of constraint, ignorance and downright lunacy from the film studios when it comes to creating a tie-in game.

Even Steven Spielberg once said to Howard Scott Warshaw, when discussing the E.T. licensed game for the Atari 2600, "Gee, can't you just make a game like Pac-Man?"

Warshaw replied: "Gee Steven. Can't you just make another film like Close Encounters?" E.T. then went on to destroy the entire video game industry.

Anyway, it seems Glu is going to be lumbered with yet another game-of-the-movie, with the official licence to this summer's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen film. The first Transformers movie was so bad it made collectors open their original Optimus Prime packaging and dress him up as a drag queen, so forgive us if we don't get too excited about this one.

What's particularly tragic is that once the restraints were off and the movie producers went back to hell, Glu was free to quickly turn out an excellent game based on the Transformers franchise: Transformers G1: Awakening.

Revenge of the Fallen (the film) will probably be terrible, but let's just hope Glu gets enough time and slack in the licence to be allowed to do the classic toys more justice as it did with Awakening.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
