Train Conductor 2: USA now rides the rails on iPhone and iPad

Five gameplay flavours in one hot engine

Train Conductor 2: USA now rides the rails on iPhone and iPad

Odd but not surprising, people can be very parochial when it comes to culture.

Despite being an enjoyable game, the Australian locations of the first Train Conductor meant it was a hit in developer The Voxel Agents' home market but not on the all-important US App Store.

Hence it's second time lucky with the release of Train Conductor 2: USA.

Fast train coming

Actually, the title has received plenty of tweaks to its 'guide trains onto the right tracks' gameplay.

Indeed, Train Conductor 2: USA is best described as five related games in one, as each of the locations - Miami, Grand Canyon, New York, Nashville and Las Vegas - plays in a different way.

Miami is the classic option: four tracks where you have to redirect the trains onto their correct numbered track without crashing them.

New York complicates the issue with five tracks and pillars in the way. At least, you can tap on trains to stop them to ensure you maintain the separation.

Ectoplasm on the tracks

Things get a twist in Nashville, where you have to ensure all the unstoppable demon trains always make it successfully onto their correct tracks. You can let the ghost trains collide if you don't have time to redirect them though.

In the Grand Canyon some trains stop, waiting for you to direct them over the gorge, but the others don't stop at the edge, forcing you to prioritise.

The strangest level though is Las Vegas, where you have to flick pink and green ghosts to the top and bottom of the screen as fast as possible.

Each level is played in an Endless mode, and you'll get high score alerts when you best your and your friends' scores. Social interaction is provided by Facebook and Twitter.

Train Conductor 2: USA is out now, priced 99c, €0.79 or 59p. It's a universal app for iPhone and iPod and supports iPhone 4.
