What are the Pocket Gamer team playing this weekend?

The Wrapp - Free cults, spectral crooks, and many, many Eevee

Hey there, welcome to our latest edition of The Wrapp.

This is a chance for you to see what the various members of the Pocket Gamer team are planning to play over this weekend and will, hopefully, give you an idea of some of the weird and wonderful things we get up to when we’re not keeping you up to speed with the latest news and tips. Heck, you might even find a new game to play.

The topics on this week’s podcast recording made me miss point-and-click adventures, so I have two options:

A) I might try and look for one on Google Play this weekend to tide me over until Chants of Sennaar launches. I’ve been playing (and enjoying!) a lot of Mongil: Star Dive for its CBT lately, and now that it’s over, I’m in the mood for a different genre where button-mashing isn’t required.

B) But then again, while prepping off-cam for this week’s podcast, Will made me feel like such a noob because of a game trivia deck where I only got one out of six questions right, so I might also just curl up in bed and refuse to come out all weekend to hide my shame.

And right now, this second option is looking much more appealing.

It’s all fairly nature-themed for me this weekend - at least, as much as it can be while I’m glued to a screen. I’ve been dipping into a cute little Hit Point Co. Ltd. idler called Hananezumi a lot lately. You take care of a garden that gets visited all the time by hedgehogs who can grow flowers on their back (as you do!) for you to collect. It’s made by the team behind Neko Atsume, in case that gives you a sense of what it’s like and how incredibly wholesome it is. So, I expect that a lot of my weekend will be consumed by looking out for my hedgehog friends.

If I can be bothered to boot my PC up over the weekend, then I’m probably also going to spend some time catching up on The Sims 4’s new event series, Nature’s Calling. I get terrible FOMO about new freebies being added to the game, so I want to make sure I can scoop all those goodies up before they’re gone. I’m hoping it’ll get me in the mood for the new Enchanted By Nature Expansion, too.

It’s a quiet weekend for me, and not much time for playing. However, as always, Vampire Survivors remains in my rotation because of how amazingly easy it is to while away a half-hour without much hassle. Well, that’s what I thought until I realised that Epic Games is giving away none other than Cultist Simulator for free!

Cultist Simulator is one of my all-time favourites, so if you need me, I’ll be exploring through the door of sleep and what-have-you. With the occasional bit of vampire slaying in between!

As I eluded in last week’s Wrapp, I dove hard back into Suzerain. My intended Strong Sordland run didn’t end, as I anticipated it, with me counter-invading Rumburg, but with them bullied out of the energy committee and me peacefully retiring to the coast. It was a really good run, and I’m excited to see what havoc that causes in my Rizia run, as the DLC continues and overlaps the main campaign, with about the same run-time and direct repercussions of your choices as Rayne directly influencing your rule.

Aside from this, I’m trying to get the last three cards in the Ultra Beasts set in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket so that I can get started on the Eevee packs. It’s great that these last two packs have only had one packet variety, as that’s allowed me to finally start catching up on completing each of the decks before the next pack lands.

Even though June has a few days to go, I've got some gaming planned for the end of this and the coming month. Following the news about Broken Sword: Reforged, I received access and am ready to point-and-click my way through ancient mysteries (that may or may not involve a sword of the broken persuasion). I'll have the rest of June and July to figure things out, but my time will be split with another puzzle adventure involving agriculture. Yep, Super Farming Boy is still in my library, and I've been picking away at the colourful quest to get out from corporate debt through crop combos.

So yeah, it's all about uncovering historic secrets and farming creatively in the long haul. Woo!

Pokémon TCG Pocket recently released the Eevee Grove expansion, and nothing else matters. I am three cards away from my ideal Eevee deck, so I will be aiming for that. I am 100% aware that it will in no way be competitive, but it will be adorable, and isn’t that more important? No, winning is the most important, but I am still doing it!

Also, The Alters is out on the Xbox Game Pass, and I need to check that out. I discounted it because the cover art made it look like another hero shooter, but my friend set me straight this week, and it actually sounds quite fun.

While I likely won't play any Pokémon TCG Pocket this weekend, I'll keep an eye on how the meta shifts because of the latest expansion. I detest the Ultra Beasts, so getting a beat down from a Buzzwole would only be a mood killer. So, hopefully, Eevee and its merry band of evolutions can squash that jacked bug's dominance. I have my doubts, though.

As for what I'm actually playing this weekend, I have my sights set on Persona 5: The Phantom X. My history with the series is... odd. I've completed over half of Persona 3 and spent countless hours enjoying Persona 4: Arena, despite not usually touching fighting games. The reason is that I love the general vibe the series possesses, but I can't sit down with an RPG that requires hundreds of hours to see the credits roll. I'm hoping, with its mobile focus, things will be different with The Phantom X.
