DON’T PANIC - DeathSpank developer Hothead is making new Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy game

Douglas Adams’s classic sci-fi novel The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is set to once again be immortalised in digital form.

Hothead Games, the folks behind critically acclaimed dungeon-crawler DeathSpank, have the reins and will be working in conjunction with Megadodo Publications on the new title. The announcement coincides with Towel Day, the annual celebration of Adams’s work.

It’s not the first time the book has been translated to game form. In 1984, Infocom released a text adventure (recently lauded by TV miserybollocks Charlie Brooker) for home computers.

It remains to be seen whether the new title will take any cues from Infocom’s game, and the developer’s eclectic softography gives no further clues as to which direction it might take.

So far, all we have to go off is a website, which allows you to sign up for a mailing list or to give it a mention on Facebook or Twitter.

No word on formats, either, but given that the developer’s last two games – Bunny the Zombie Slayer and Chromanoids – were on iOS, it’s not too much of a stretch to imagine this latest Hitchhiker’s Guide will be available in portable form.

Hopefully the answers to life, the universe, and everything – or further release info at least – will be found on Pocket Gamer in the not-too-distant future.
