Nintendo says 'no' to 2D adventure The Binding of Isaac on 3DS

Early last month, we reported that Edmund McMillen and Florian Himsl's Bible-based action-RPG The Binding of Isaac may end up in the 3DS's eShop.

"A publisher I know is currently asking Nintendo if they would be ok with Isaac on the 3DS, if they say yes then I'll hand the game off to them and let them port it," Edmund McMillen, who is also co-CEO of Team Meat, said in January.

It doesn't look like Ninty was particularly keen.

"After a long internal debate Nintendo has decided NOT to allow the Binding of Isaac on the 3DS," McMillen confirmed last night on Twitter.

"As many assumed the reasons were due to the games [sic] 'questionable religious content'. Thank GOD Steam exists!".

Locked out

The Binding of Isaac is a 2D Legend of Zelda-esque Mac and PC title that sees you assume the role of a small naked child, who escapes to a monster-filled basement after God demands his life.

Unlike Link's colourful adventures, however, the dungeons and items in The Binding of Isaac are completely randomised. There are also six playable characters and multiple endings to unlock.
