The Midnight Carp is a fish that can make every player in the game quite a bit of money. By default, it is a difficult catch, so if you want an easy way to catch the Midnight Carp in Stardew Valley, this is the guide for you. We will be exploring the best way you can catch this fish, and also share every recipe you can cook with it and anything else it might be used for.

What is a Midnight Carp?

Midnight Carp

With beautiful purple colouring and appearing only at night (hence the name), the Midnight Carp is a fish that is only available during two seasons: Fall and Winter. In Stardew Valley, every season lasts for 28 days, so that makes this fish available for a total of 56 in-game days. It can appear no matter the weather conditions, and you will most likely notice it biting when your lure keeps being pulled from one side to the other. It is difficult to catch for beginners, but easier for those with level 10 Fishing and an Iridium Rod (maybe a Bobber too in order to increase the fishing bar size).

The fish can be found in freshwater, such as the Mountain Lake, Forest Pond or in the waters of Ginger Island in the North and West, and it usually spawns after 10pm.

Just like with the other tougher fish to catch, the Midnight Carp can be caught easier after eating a Seafoam Pudding. It also helps if you have an Iridium Rod, and a Cork Bobber. The Bobber will increase the size of the fishing bar, making it easier to move it from one side to the other, since this fish tends to do that a lot. Try to have the Iridium Rod and the Seafoam Pudding at the very least, since that will make a huge difference when aiming to catch the Midnight Carp in Stardew Valley.

Other ways to get Midnight Carp:
  • From the Travelling Merchant
  • From Trash (slim chance)
  • Can be caught at any random location when using Magic Bait, just like with many other fish.

What you can do with a Midnight Carp in Stardew Valley

Character on the dock fishing in Stardew Valley

Midnight Carp can be used in a handful of recipes, but it doesn't really make for a great gift. The most important use for this fish, however, is the Seafoam Pudding one, which requires 1x Flounder, 1x Midnight Carp and 1x Squid Ink. This is an item that increases the player's fishing level by 4, making it easier to catch difficult fish.

Gifting

None of the villagers in Stardew Valley like or love this fish. The only villagers that are neutral towards it are:

  • Demetrius
  • Elliott
  • Leo
  • Linus
  • Pam
  • Sebastian
  • Willy

Never gift the Midnight Carp to Pierre, Evelyn or Haley, because they hate it and you will end up ruining your friendship with them.

Recipes

The Midnight Carp is used in the following recipes:
Maki Roll 1x Any Fish

1x Seaweed

1x Rice

Fishing Pond and Roe

If you place the Midnight Carp in a Fishing Pond, it will produce purple Roe, which can be sold for 105G. Overall, the Midnight Carp is a great addition to a Fishing Pond since it will also colour the water a beautiful purple. It can also look nice in an indoor aquarium if you like the look of it.

I've enjoyed playing games ever since I was a kid (which was a long long time ago at this point). It all started off with an Atari 65XE, then came an Amiga 500+, a Sega Genesis, a 386, and the rest was history. I consider myself lucky to have been able to experience the gaming evolution over the years - this is my passion, and what I will continue to do for as long as I can.
