One of our jobs here at Pocket Gamer is to sieve through the hundreds of apps that hit the App Store and Google Play every single day, and unearth those glittering gems.

Lately, though, we've been giving you the chance to have YOUR say, too. Basically, we've been giving you the opportunity to tell us your favourite game from a shortlist of the week's best releases.

This week's votes have been counted (and recounted), and we have a winner: Star Command.

After several delays, War Balloon Games's space-based simulation Star Command finally blasted onto the App Store last week.

If you've ever dreamt of creating your very own Star Trek-inspired spacecraft and recruiting a ragtag band of outer space explorers, Star Command will definitely tickle your pickle.

Once you've decided on an overall look and the perfect colour scheme for your ship, you can fill it with medical bays, science wings, and - of course - engine rooms.

Don't forget weapons, though, sir. It's impossible to explore space without getting into numerous tussles with increasingly peeved alien races, you see.

Not a walk in the park, then

Speaking of tussles, Star Command recently entered our infamous review room and scrapped it out with our Harry. Star Command walked away 'victorious' sporting a shiny Pocket Gamer Bronze Award.

Star Command is available to download from the App Store for £1.99 / $2.99. So, head on over there at warp speed now and grab it.

Before you do, though, be sure to bookmark our complete Star Command guide and walkthrough.
