War Balloon Games has just released the first gameplay trailer for its upcoming iOS and Android space cruiser sim Star Command.

Announced back in early 2011, this title features similar pixel-art stylings and sim management gameplay to Game Dev Story. Instead of being set in a game development studio, however, Star Command, natch, plays out along the corridors of a spacecraft.

After tapping the general public for $36,967 via crowd-funding site Kickstarter, War Balloon caused a minor controversy when it revealed that less than a third of that figure was spent on actual game development.

Having returned to Kickstarter to drum up some cash for the PC and Mac ports, the dev has seen fit to give fans (and potential backers) their first glimpse of some in-game Star Command footage.

Course laid in

Judging by the video, you will be able to build different rooms aboard your ship to improve your craft's capabilities, focusing on areas such as engineering, science, and weapons.

Once you've kitted out your ship, it's simply a case of scanning for life, and then boldly going where every Star Trek enthusiast has dreamt of going a million times before.

Star Command should be warping onto iOS and Android later this summer.
