While we may have gotten used to the idea that pop culture sensations are now global rather than regional, there are still some surprising hits that seemingly sprint out of nowhere overnight. Take Solo Leveling, for example, which made the leap to our mobile screens with the ARPG spin-off, Arise. Now, it's set to make another footprint with the upcoming roguelite action RPG, Solo Leveling: Karma.
For those not in the know, Solo Leveling is a manhwa (that's Korean manga) series that's set in a world of demons and demon hunters. Sung Jin-woo is one of the weakest of the hunters, but after a near-death experience, finds himself gifted with the ability to level up by a mysterious force. Naturally, that means going from zero to hero in no time flat.
Solo Leveling: Karma is set in a period called the 27-year gap. And for those of you who haven't already read or watched it, you'll want to tune out now because spoilers!!!
Skip the Karma
Ah, the time-skip, bane and boon of anime. Karma will see fans experience the 27-year time skip, which saw Sung Jin-woo leap into an alternate dimension to take on the demons plaguing Earth once and for all. In two years' real time, he experienced more than two decades of battle, offering a wealth of content to plumb for something such as Karma.Solo Leveling: Karma is slated for a mobile and PC release, and while we don't have many more details, the trailer teases some fast-paced Diablo-style hack 'n' slash action and plenty of flashy moves to be learned by Jin-woo.
