Netflix Games, the relatively recently launched Netflix platform for mobile gaming, has released its latest new title - an arcade-style shoot ‘em up by the name of Skies of Chaos. This neat little old-school shooter sees you take on the role of Captain Campbell, a dogfighter both in nature of being a dog but also being an airship captain. Featuring high-octane top-down arcade-style gameplay, tons of unique bosses, and an old pixel-based art style, there’s a lot to dig into here.

Story-wise, this is fairly simple, as are most shoot ‘em ups. You play as Captain Campbell, and after General Ramshackle and his Lieutenants of Doom take over the world and begin crushing the last bits of resistance, it’s up to you to free your comrades and restore hope to this iron-fist tyranny. Oh, and in case it wasn’t clear by the previously mentioned dog main character, all of the characters you encounter in Skies of Chaos are indeed anthropomorphic, making each design quite unique.

As for gameplay, well, if you’ve played other top-down arcade shoot ‘em ups, such as DonDonPachi or DanMaku, you know what you’re in for. You play as a tiny little ship that has to continuously barrage a screen full of baddies with a stream of bullets, all while dodging their projectiles and attacks as well. It’s a simple formula, but this bullet hell-style of games is infamous for its difficulty.

There’s also a bit of an RPG system thrown into this one, as while you progress and best bosses, you’ll collect loot which can then be used to upgrade your ships, weapons, and more, all of which you’ll also unlock as you progress through the game.

And to make it even sweeter, there are literally thousands of weapon combinations you can equip within Skies of Chaos, so the variety is nigh endless, leading to tons of replay value. Overall, this sounds like a real treat for fans of the genre.
