Silent Hill: The Escape haunting the iPhone

Classic horror series takes a bite of the Apple

Silent Hill: The Escape haunting the iPhone

While ravenously hunting for morsels of tasty Metal Gear Solid Touch news for the iPhone, we came across an announcement on Konami's Japanese website about its forthcoming re-engineering of the classic Silent Hill franchise.

Silent Hill: The Escape looks to be sent in an abandoned hospital, judging by the terrifyingly faceless nurse in the attached screenshots - not unlike the new Silent Hill Mobile 2 on the mobile platform.

According to the website this will be a full 3D first person shooter, with an emphasis on atmospheric sound effects to help immerse us in the haunting world of Silent Hill: The Escape.

Considering this is being launched on what's essentially a glorified iPod, it's good to hear a developer giving the audio a bit of extra attention. Silent Hill has always instilled its sense of fear through atmosphere, rather than cheap scares, and the audio plays an important role in building that tension.

The release date is suggested as late December, but there's no indication if this is for a worldwide release or just a local one. Keep checking back for more Silent Hill: The Escape news as we get it.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
