Scrappers, the stylish Apple Arcade beat 'em up, has received a major update that includes an AI companion bot

Scrappers initially released for Apple Arcade this year, back in April, where it was met with some excitement since it has been created by the developers of the PixelJunk series. Since launch, Q-Games has been hard at work on an update that is now available.

This major update introduces a plethora of gameplay features as well as a few quality of live improvements that will hopefully make this waste management beat 'em more enjoyable to play. The first of those changes is the addition of a little robot helper called S.C.R.A.P.

This AI-controlled companion will wander about collecting trash whilst throwing the odd piece your way to increase your stack combo count, like a co-op partner might in multiplayer. S.C.R.A.P has no combat prowess though but it will continue to deposit rubbish whilst you're in the midst of battle.

There's also been another change that will involve a robot, this time with an alteration to the overclocking system. Periodically the new Overclock Bot will appear in the stage with a fiery bubble sitting atop it. Players will have to wail on this until it bursts. Doing so will temporarily increase the character's speed, stacking limit and attack power. The Overclock Bot will appear in both singleplayer and co-op.

Beyond that, a few changes have been made to matchmaking. Now players will be able to enter a six-digit code so they can quickly enter a game with their friends. Meanwhile, you can also take part in random matches with other players who are queuing for that option.

They've also included an Auto-Catch system so players can catch trash without controller input and it's intended to ease new players into the game so can easily be turned off in the menu. Finally, garbage now has loot tiers so players can optimise what they collect. The tiers are Normal, Heavy, Special and Enemy.
