iPhone gets 3D Rubik's Cube game

We're going to have to wait until June to see proper native iPhone games, when Apple launches the official App Store for its handset.

However, that isn't stopping developers from launching some cool web-based games for iPhone, which you play through its Safari browser. The latest is a 3D version of the Rubik's Cube.

Developed by a chap in Baltimore called Balazs Peter Vagvolgyi, it's presumably unofficial, but is pretty neat all the same. The cube sits onscreen surrounded by a bunch of arrows, which you press to rotate it.

"This is the first JavaScript application I've ever written but I still could finish it in about ten nights," he writes on his blog. "I'm particularly proud of the 3D engine built on JavaScript and HTML CANVAS that features ambient and directional lighting and backface culling."

Fancy a go? You need to point your iPhone browser to http://www.vagvolgyi.com/rubikscube/rubikscube.html and then tap away to your heart's content.
