Interview: Jenny Santos of Gravity offers sneak peek at what makes Ragnarok Arena unique

Squeezing through the crowd in the bustling centre of Prontera and combing through the mystic depths of Payon Cave have been part of a good chunk of my early gaming days, so it's always a thrill to see the insanely popular Ragnarok franchise thriving to this very day. Even more exhilarating is the number of new titles along the same IP that's being released regularly, and this time, I'm looking forward to another one where I can get my RO fix on mobile.

Ragnarok Arena is an upcoming strategic card game that combines idle elements and RPG features into a new and accessible title for on-the-go gamers, and it's slated for a global launch this year (which won't be long now). I talked about this a little bit in an announcement article last week, but we've got more details on the highly anticipated title thanks to my trip to ESGS over the weekend.

At the Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit 2022 in Manila, Philippines, the Ragnarok booth not only quizzed eager fans of the franchise on their RO knowledge with daily trivia in exchange for themed merch, but it also encouraged new players to sign up for a chance to spin a special wheel and score cool official swag like lanyards and caps.

The event also gave away three Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Earbuds during the game's Facebook “Like and Share" event, as well as special codes players can redeem in exchange for exclusive in-game goodies at the Razer Grand Raffle.

I had the pleasure of having a quick chat with Jenny Santos, Head of Content Marketing at CBZN Perspective, which handles the activities of Gravity Game Hub in the country (snippets of the interview have been translated from Tagalog to English).

"Ragnarok Arena is a strategy idle game where you lay out your cards composed of your main character along with your monsters. You will form a team and start strategising from the very beginning. Because you grow your character based on the monsters that accompany you, you will need to figure out whether or not they're compatible with each other," she said. "It's very different from other games in the Ragnarok franchise as it's the first idle-slash-card game in the IP."

She shared a few insights into the game with such passion for the craft, inviting players to experience Ragnarok Arena and discover what makes it unique. "We're targeting to have a different aspect to the game since strategy games and idle genres are very popular right now. Most gamers in this generation have busy schedules and want to progress through the game while they're still able to do something else. This is why the idle genre appeals to gamers of the generation today."

Santos also shed some light on what we can expect in the next few weeks. "Players can look forward to typical Ragnarok tournaments and World Boss raids, as well as a narrative that players can follow. Each time players clear a stage, they can learn more about the story to encourage them to progress through the game. Please stay tuned for the global launch!"

At the moment, eager fans can head on over to the Ragnarok Arena official website to learn more about the game, or join the community of followers on the official Facebook page to stay tuned for announcements on the pre-registration period, milestone rewards and more. If you're one of the lucky players residing in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia, you can even join in on an exciting Follow event where you might just nab Golden Poring, Dead Branch, Magic Stone and other fab finds!
