The best of free iPhone gaming: Quiz Climber challenges your brain while you challenge your friends

It's charming, it's addictive, it pits you against your friends, and it's free. That's always good.

Relentless Software's Quiz Climber tasks you with answering 50 multiple-choice questions on a number of different topics, such as movies, music, geography, general knowledge, sport, nature, and history.

As you successfully answer strings of posers, your avatar - a cute and cuddly squirrel - begins to climb higher and higher up the branches of a quiz tree, bypassing Facebook friends whose brainpower has failed them.

Naturally, the questions get harder as you ascend the tree, with one wrong move resulting in your demise (the end of the quiz). You can, however, buy and earn lifelines which give you a second chance of intellectual glory.

If you do manage to beat all of your friends, though, the game doesn't allow you to rest on your extremely intelligent laurels, as your hard-earned scores are reset at the beginning of each week - giving you another opportunity to get your fingers dirty.

The Pocket Gamer team has already got in on the trivia action, with esteemed editor Rob Hearn taking the clever crown so far.

However, it's the beginning of a new week, of course, and with Will, Mark, Chris, and Rich prepping their little grey cells, the title of Quiz King could go to anybody.

We'll keep you updated on their progress and rivalries through Twitter.

You can grab Quiz Climber from the App Store without ads for £1.49 / $1.99, or with ads for free. C'mon, you'd be silly not to.
