QRusader turns every QR code you scan into a dungeon to conquer, now available
|
| QRusader
  • QRusader is a newly released fantasy dungeon crawler
  • The twist? You generate levels by scanning QR codes
  • Enjoy a functionally infinite number of levels, complete with loot, enemies and even leaderboard challenges

We often get some interesting pitches for upcoming releases. But I think even I was mildly surprised to see Ben Timperio, a former writer for YouTube sensation MrBeast, jumping into mobile. And it's with something that has an interesting twist on the AR format with QRusader, which is now available on mobile!

If you hadn't already guessed from the name, QRusader offers a fantasy adventure with a twist. Every QR code that you scan in real life becomes its own, procedurally generated dungeon (complete with loot, enemies and leaderboard challenges) that you have to take your cute little crusader through.

While it may not be Unreal Engine quality in terms of graphics, QRusader undoubtedly has plenty of charm with its adorable characters and colourful settings. And with the ability to play through a functionally infinite number of levels (well, depending on how many QR codes you encounter in your life), there's plenty of content to enjoy with QRusader.

Qrazy!

It's not surprising that QRusader seems to be arriving soon with so much polish. Considering how well-polished Timperio's previous work obviously was. And as much as it's tempting to roll your eyes at talk about this being some sort of game-changing release, it's undoubtedly a well-crafted one.

With simple movement and gameplay, I'll be interested to see how much it resonates with any dungeon-crawling fans out there. And indeed, whether or not the QR code mechanic will work long-term in providing people with enough fun that they stick around. But with considerations for mechanics like leaderboard challenges (for you completionists out there), it may very well have a fighting chance.

In the meantime if you're looking for some extra fantasy fun after playing QRusader, why not try out some of the top releases we've listed on our ranking of the best RPGs on Android?
