What does the PUBG 2025 roadmap mean for mobile?

Big changes are on the way

What does the PUBG 2025 roadmap mean for mobile?
  • The roadmap for PUBG in 2025 has been revealed, so what does it mean for mobile?
  • There's a bigger push for UGC and a unified experience across modes
  • So, could a fusion of the two be on the cards? We'll have to see.

Today, a major new update was provided on what PUBG would be doing going forward in 2025, and Krafton seemingly has big plans. That includes a move to Unreal Engine 5, jumping to current-gen consoles and more big-name collaborations. But it's some of the talk that has us thinking a bit more about mobile, so let's dig in.

It's important to specify that this roadmap is purely for PUBG itself, but it does include many of the changes that've also made their way to mobile, such as the introduction of the newest map Rondo. However, it's one line in particular that stood out to us, about a more "unified experience" going forward.

For the moment this unified experience is specifically about modes in PUBG, however, it's not a stretch to imagine that something even bigger is on the cards. Be that an eventual unification of the two or some crossplay-compatible modes being added down the line.

I think it's also interesting to note that the stronger push towards UGC (user-generated content) that we've seen over here on mobile with World of Wonder mode seems to be more of a priority in this roadmap. The launch PUBG UGC project to allow sharing of content between players is highlighted; and it's not hard to see some parallels and potential goals with something like their perennial competitor Fortnite.

So, could we see a potential fusion of the two versions of PUBG? Quite possibly, but right now it's all reading between the lines. But this roadmap clearly lays out a major push forward for PUBG, and I don't doubt we'll see at least some similarities for how 2025 develops for PUBG Mobile.

The major stumbling block could be the purported adoption of Unreal Engine 5, a whole new engine, that'd mean Mobile would need to follow suit.
