Pokémon Unite adds Psyduck to its roster as a Ranged Supporter

A familiar face from the Kanto region has stepped foot into Aeos Island as Psyduck joins Pokémon Unite. You’ll recognise this Pokémon for its constant headache, rendering it useless in a lot of circumstances. But boy does this Water-type Pokémon stand up when it’s required the most. Psyduck joins the MOBA as a Ranged Supporter capable of disrupting the competition.
Just like in the series, Psyduck’s headache plays a major role in Pokémon Unite too, in the form of a headache gauge. When you’re in the thick of it and the gauge reaches its limit, Psyduck’s mysterious power activates, shoving nearby opponents and giving its moves a boost with reduced cooldowns.
Its Swift Swim ability also kicks in when Psyduck takes damage, boosting its movement speed temporarily, which can be a real help in dodging tough hits. Besides that, Psyduck’s moveset offers a range of different options. Its basic attack fires water shots at a distance, and you’ll have several supportive tools to choose from, including Bubble Beam, Surf, and Psychic.
Psyduck’s Unite Move, Full-Power Psy-ay-ay!, unleashes a series of psychic waves that damage and weaken nearby enemies. Not only does this move add power, but it also significantly raises Psyduck’s headache gauge, so you’ll have another shove and cooldown reduction on deck.
If we look at the metagame, Psyduck will particularly fare well against Darkrai, which will be pretty handy given it is such a strong Pokémon. The Pokémon is bringing Disable to Unite for the first time, which can raise enemy cooldowns and disrupt combos. It can prevent moves like Dark Void or back-to-back moves performed by other Speedsters.

As for weaknesses, Psyduck will have a challenging time facing off against Mew (I mean, who wouldn’t?), whose Light Screen and Solar Beam combos can still overwhelm the Pokémon’s supportive and disabling abilities. Yet, if you catch Mew out of position, Psyduck can make a decisive impact by disrupting its high-damage moves.
