October is all about the spookiness and Halloween. Most games celebrate it by hosting numerous events and Pokémon Go is no different. The AR game’s Halloween celebration begins on October 20th but this post isn’t about that. Before we embrace the darkness, Niantic is hosting an event to celebrate the exact opposite, light.

Between October 14th and17th, Pokémon Go is celebrating the Festival of Lights. It is a way of strengthening bonds with your fellow trainers and the Pokémon around you as the event is set to introduce some debutants, among a lot of other Pokémon that carry the message of brightness.

Speaking of newbies, Morelull, the Illuminating Pokémon from Generation VII makes its debut on the perfect occasion. One of the shortest grass-type Pokémon, it roams the forests at night looking for nutrients. Gather 50 Morelull Candies and you’ll get your hands on the second debutant, Morelull’s evolution Shiinotic.

For some extra support, a bunch of events bonuses will go live too. Trainers will earn 2x Candy as well as 2x XP for catching Pokémon. Incense can also be enjoyed for longer as it will last for two hours with Pokémon like Alolan Geodude, Blitzle, Litwick, and more being attracted more. The Angler Pokémon, Chinchou, which has two little lights for antennae will appear in its Shiny form at a much higher rate.

In the Festival of Light’s Timed Research, the missions will be centred around catching Pokémon. Completing all the requirements will unlock the Sparkler pose. Additionally, Field Research tasks will reward players with encounters with themed Pokémon.

Pokémon Go’s sky was already dotted by a sea of stars and galaxies and things are about to get even brighter with all the sparklers and lanterns floating around during this event. Don’t forget to spin PokéStops and open gifts containing the Festival of Lights stickers!
