Pokémon Go sees Shadow Giratina and Kyogre show up as Giovanni returns for the Taken Over event
The relentless Team Go Rocket returns

- The Taken Over event runs from August 11th to 17th
- Shadow Kyogre will feature in raids on August 16th and 17th
- TMs and Mysterious Components will be awarded for Field Research
As you prepare for the Max Finale event, things are getting a little more chaotic across Pokémon Go. Giovanni’s back, Shadow Kyogre is crashing into Shadow Raids for the first time, and Delightful Days: Taken Over is stirring up trouble from August 11th to 17th. Expect ramped-up Team Go Rocket activity, new Shadow Pokémon, and lots of rewards to get your hands on.
It all begins with Special Research that sends you on a collision course with Giovanni. Complete the story to earn a Super Rocket Radar and confront his Shadow Giratina before time runs out. You’ve got until September 2nd to claim this research and save the renegade Pokémon.
Then from August 16th to 17th, Shadow Kyogre takes over five-star Shadow Raids, bringing another challenge and a chance at its Shiny form. You’ll also get one additional Raid Pass per day from spinning Gyms during event hours.
Grunts, Leaders, and Giovanni are mixing up their teams, with new Shadow Pokémon like Staryu, Fletchling, Pikipek, and Grubbin showing up. You’ll also see one- and three-star Shadow Raids featuring species like Bellsprout, Absol, and Girafarig.

In addition, Field Research tasks will award TMs and Mysterious Components, and there’s a themed Collection Challenge for XP and a Rocket Radar. You can also use the Charged TM during the event to remove Frustration from Shadow Pokémon. Plus, if you’ve grabbed the August Go Pass, you’ll already have a headstart as part of the ongoing Delightful Days season.
