To celebrate World Postcard Day, Niantic’s walking ARG game Pikmin Bloom, based on the popular Nintendo IP, has introduced some new collectibles for your Pikmin to find. These new collectibles take real-life locations nearby the player and slap them on a postcard, giving a cool new way to grab some mementos of your adventures.

In case you aren’t familiar, Pikmin Bloom was something of a follow-up to Pokemon GO, and involves a lot of similar mechanics. It’s an alternate reality game, meaning you’ll be participating in events by actually walking to locations in the real world and interacting with them through the game from there. As you walk around in Pikmin Bloom, you’ll leave a trail of flowers behind you, as will every other player, making the in-game map a colourful and interesting community-driven art project.

As you collect new Pikmin, you’ll unlock new colours and be able to check into various locations near you in the real world. With this Postcard Day celebration, you’ll also now be able to send your Pikmin on expeditions, and sometimes, they’ll come back with collectible Postcards.

These Postcards are based on nearby landmarks to you, meaning you’ll be able to collect plenty of mementos of your hometown, a vacation spot if you’re out and about, or even your very own workplace. It’s a cute little way to incentivize going to interesting places and grabbing some Postcards of the area to remember your adventures.

And to spice it up even more, if you happen to stroll around some post office locations, you’ll be able to grab Decor Pikmin Postcards - Pikmin who are adorned in a mailman-esque costume. These little guys are quite adorable, and offer up another new thing to collect during the celebration of the holiday.

Pikmin Bloom is something akin to Pokemon GO or Ingress, but a lot more relaxed and focused on simply exploring and walking about with your cute squad of Pikmin behind you. If that sounds like something you’re into, you can check it out for free at either of the links below this article!
