First announced in April last year, Niantic's new and original AR-infused pet sim, Peridot, is now available for iOS and Android. It marks the first time the developer has created its own IP since Ingress, after predominately working with well-known entities such as Pikmin, Pokemon, and, most recently, the NBA.

If you've missed any of our previous coverage on Peridot, let's cover the basics. You begin the game by receiving your first Dot, the name of the little creatures you'll care for. Each critter is said to be 100% genetically unique by pulling different aspects from the numerous Archetypes you can discover. These Archetypes are a mix of real-life and mythical animals, such as giraffes, unicorns and peacocks.

After receiving your Dot, you will raise them to the best of your ability. That means playing fetch with them and rubbing their bellies. You can also dress them up in dapper hats, bow ties and even adorn them with facial hair if you'd like. Unsurprisingly the game allows you to snap photos and videos after doing this to share on social media.

That's only one part of Peridot, however. You aren't limited to one Dot. By teaming up with your pals, you can breed your pals to Hatch new Dots that will take different elements from each of their parents, creating another unique critter.

Since it's a Niantic game, it won't surprise you to learn Peridot leans heavily on AR, allowing you to see your Dots frolicking in the real world. They will interact with their surroundings too. Whether that's hiding behind trees, digging in the sand or swimming in a body of water.

Peridot is available now on the App Store and Google Play. If you're interested in giving it a go, you can download it for your preferred platform using the links below. It is a free-to-play game with in-app purchases.
