Order of Kings beginner's guide - 6 tips to prosper your civilisation
This new RTS features real-time combat and allows you to use the terrain strategically, and our Order of Kings beginner's guide will help you ace that from the start.
Eager to flex your strategic skills and tactical tenacity? Order of Kings is a new RTS for PC and mobile featuring fluid real-time battles of an epic scale. You’ll build your base in ancient China, summon expert commanders, and engage in campaign battles.
Now, things might seem overwhelming at first, but fret not - we're here to help you hit the ground running.
Order of Kings beginner's guide
You’ll need to think tactically in order to slay your enemies and ultimately build a thriving civilisation. This can feel a bit daunting when starting out - luckily, we’ve compiled a list of tips below to help you get started.
1
Tip #1: Complete Chapter Goals
There’s a lot going on in Order of Kings. In between upgrading your base and battling foes, remember to keep an eye on chapter goals. Completing a chapter goal nets you some resources, while finishing an entire chapter nets you a good haul that sometimes includes new commanders.
Not only is completing chapters a good way to get free resources, but they also serve to familiarise you with the various mechanics.

Tip #2: Assign Commanders to Lead Your Troops
Order of Kings features 200 commanders you can summon to lead your troops. You can assign up to three commanders to a troop, assigning them the roles of Commander, Deputy General, and Strategist. You’ll want to fill all positions to give your troops a better chance of survival.
Pay attention to each commander’s stats and abilities. It’s worth noting that when assigned to the Strategist position, a Commander’s combat skill can’t be utilised. I recommend using your rarest Commanders since they tend to have better stats and skills. Also, if you use a commander enough, you’ll get to level up stats.

Tip #3: Deploy Troops Strategically
If you want to win battles, don’t just deploy your troops willy-nilly. Pay attention to what type of soldiers you’re attacking and whether they can counter yours. Your basic troop types include Spearmen, Archers, Calvary, and Swordsmen.
For the best results, edit troops before each battle and switch to a troop type that says ‘Counter’ in green beside it. Swordsmen are good in close-quarters combat and excel against spearmen and archers. Calvary move quickly and are strong against swordsmen. Archers perform well against other troop types from a distance but are vulnerable if enemy forces draw too close. Always be sure to check that your troops are at max strength before deployment.

Tip #4: Use the Terrain to Your Advantage
It probably goes without saying, but let our Order of Kings beginner's guide reiterate it anyway - pay attention to the terrain when in battle, as it can have a huge impact on your army’s survival. Conceal troops in forests and ambush opponents for an advantage. Placing Archers on high ground helps give them an edge. You can even use narrow passages to bottleneck enemy armies.
Your army's strength may not always compare to that of your enemy, but by using the terrain tactically, you can gain significant advantages in battle.

Tip #5: Join an Alliance
As with most entries in the RTS genre, you should join an alliance as soon as possible. Joining an alliance will not only help ensure your safety but also allow you to access specialised units like Battering Rams. Only your alliance leader can launch a siege during which you’ll want to use Bettering Rams and Trebuchets to break through the city’s defences.

Tip #6: Expand Your Territory
Building and upgrading your base is an important aspect of Order of Kings. To keep things running smoothly, you’ll want to unlock new areas in your base as soon as possible. Unlocking these areas will allow you to place more structures, which in turn help your civilisation thrive. Be sure to upgrade your farm and lumberyard whenever possible, as you’ll need grain for your armies and lumber for building.
You can also expand your influence by taking over villages. Once you’ve taken over a village, you can develop it to earn even more influence. Developing villages also nets you some resources, which you can use to further improve your base.
