Old School RuneScape has finally added a new skill after 15 long years

Back in December, Jagex revealed its roadmap of upcoming events for Old School RuneScape at its annual Winter Summit. We’ve already seen some of the content from this list and it’s time to prepare for the arrival of more, as after 15 long years, a new skill is being added to OSRS. Recently, a poll was held regarding the game’s first-ever new skill and it broke all voting records.

Everything that is added to Old School RuneScape works only after player approval before development actually begins. The poll for introducing a new skill to the popular MMORPG was held in December 2022 and since then over 190,000 players have voted, which is a massive number.

After this, if the approval rate is over 80%, then we enter into the Community Consultation phase where players will determine what kind of skill they want. This is exactly what is happening right now as the new skill has entered the Community Consultation phase during which a detailed survey will be circulated amongst everyone.

The questionnaire is detailed and serves as a means to gather information on what kind of skill players want to see in OSRS. Players have until January 31st to fill this up. Subsequently, things will move into the pitching stage where further discussions will take place between selected members of the community.

When the pitching phase begins, a Discord focus group will be formed consisting of a Community Panel of 100 players. They will work together to give feedback in the Old School team’s proposed skills based on the survey. These discussions will be shared with everyone to maintain a constant level of transparency.

Finally, we will re-enter a polling stage for the final set of skills. Then, the one with the most community backing will go through a final refinement stage before being officially released.
