TV licences can often be difficult to convert into games. In many cases, the thing that makes them great televisually rarely transfers into gameplay.

So when it comes to its Numb3rs game, publisher Chillingo and developer Apocalypse Train have sensibly gone down an arcade meets brain training route, which may not please fans of CBS' now canned FBI show, but nevertheless ensures a solid experience for gamers.

Characters such as Charlie Eppes, Don Eppes, Amita Ramanujan and Larry Fleinhardt appear of course - if only in static imagery - but it's the action and quizzes that are the game's real focus.

Consisting of time-based mini games, Numb3rs works something like a more active version of Dr Kawashima, getting you to add up numbers, partake in some topdown arcade racing action, perform memory tests, and play Canabalt Lite in order to solve the cases and capture the bad guys. Just like real life FBI agents do...

There are three difficulty levels, with high scores recorded using Chillingo's Crystal platform.

Numb3rs is available now for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, priced 99c, €0.79 or 59p for the universal app.

You can get some idea how it plays in the following video.
