Tap up psychedelic flowers in NIJI The Endless Rainbow for iPhone

When you strip down a videogame to its purest form, it's just an interactive experience that encourages you to manipulate on-screen action to gain some sort of positive feedback.

That's the sort of bare bones deal when it comes to NIJI The Endless Rainbow.

It's about the simplest game you could imagine - a rainbow scrolls across the screen and you have to tap the flowers on it before they make it from the right hand side of the screen to the left. You get points for each flower you tap, and it's game over when four flowers make it to the other side.

Is that all there is?

What sort of positive feedback is that, you may well be thinking?

Well, there's high score ranking and achievements via OpenFeint, while some additional variation is providing by the UFOs and birds that fly across the screen, allowing you to tap up bonus points.

The main enjoyment however comes from the psychedelic artwork and audio; something occasionally enhanced as you can tap on certain flowers to change the game's colour palette. Other power ups include time slowdowns and smart bombs.

Still, NIJI The Endless Rainbow is all about atmosphere, not really about skill and progression, as most games.

It's available now for iPhone and iPad, priced 99c, €0.79 or 59p for a limited time.
