What to play when watching England's cricket team

Something for the wicket…

What to play when watching England's cricket team

N-Gage + DS + Game Boy ...

Watching Englishmen compete in just about any sport is a decidedly masochistic pursuit. It's the same old story, no matter whether it's our Olympic hopefuls falling just that little bit short at the last, Henman battling his way bravely out of Wimbledon or our latest 'world-beating' football team throwing it all away (again) on a penalty shoot-out or reckless red card.

When it comes to cricket, however, the situation is even more maddening. One minute England are the best team in the world, beating the Ozzies in some style, the next we get beaten by the Sri Lankan reserves.

Right now though we've just whipped Pakistan with an innings to spare in the second test, thanks to Monty Panesar and Steve Harmison, whilst Kieren Pietersen and co are smashing off boundaries for fun on the second.

All in all it's a good time to join the Barmy Army. And what better way to fill the long days between singing, drinking beer and the occasional burst of sporting action than with a mobile sim like Cricket Mania.

A bit too literal? Maybe – drawing on the barmy army's famous noise-making abilities – Sonic would be a surer bet? That could be a little fast-paced for a cricketing afternoon, admittedly, so perhaps Trivial Pursuit, Solitaire or Steve Davis Snooker would be better suited.

Of course for those of us looking forward to the winter Ashes series in Australia, it just has to be Mission Impossible!
