Weave is a tabletop storytelling game that aims to streamline the process of playing those types of games, removing the lengthy rulebooks and replacing them with a tarot card-style system instead. Now the developers, Monocle Society, are introducing Weave+, a subscription service that costs $4.99 a month early next year.

This service will allow people to play without limits on player level or adding various elements to the game. They’ll also have access to an ever-expanding roster of playsets whilst the free version of Weave only allows you to choose from four – Goblins R’ Jerks, The Gloomies, Solar Age and Xorte/IO.

There are further benefits for opting to go with Weave+ in the works according to Monocle Society. They also want to add the option for players to create their own custom cards, introduce new playsets, aid in group organisation and send player reminders to help speed up the roleplaying experience.

If you’re unfamiliar with Weave, it’s essentially a lighter ruleset than you’d find in most tabletop RPGs using cards. When the storyteller wishes to introduce new elements to their current campaign, they can draw one of 22 cards. This could be a location, boss or plot point. Each of these cards often has multiple options to allow the DM to make their campaign feel different.

It’s not likely to be something that greatly appeals to people who are avid tabletop players where the extensive ruleset is part of the experience and appeal. However, it might be worth trying for those who are new to tabletop games or simply interested in trying them at a more accessible entry point.

Weave is available now on the App Store and Google Play. It’s a free app but Weave+ will be a subscription service when it launches in the first quarter of 2020. It will cost $4.99 a month.
