Voice command games coming to iPhone 3G

Fonix releases the VoiceIn 5.0 Tool Kit for embedded speech interfaces

Fonix has long specialised in voice and speech interfaces for a variety of different platforms, from mobiles to next gen consoles.

With the launch of Apple's new handset, its flagship tool kit VoiceIn has now seen an iPhone conversion, according to TouchArcade.

The VoiceIn technology could essentially allow game and application developers who license the system to introduce voice command enabled software.

Fonix has already released a voice command application in time for the iPhone launch, which differs for similar systems by operating entirely from the client side, rather than sending the commands over the internet to be interpreted by a remote system.

Although any implemented voice command aspects of future software wouldn't work on the iPod touch (since it doesn't have a microphone), it seems like a logical addition for iPhone users. People already expect to be able to talk their mobile phones into action, so hopefully Fonix's new system will unlock the possibility in the iPhone.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
