Sony Ericsson’s upcoming Xperia Play handset, and the first PlayStation Certified Android, will be available on Vodafone and O2 when it launches in the UK later this year.
O2’s official UK Twitter account announced “Awesome news - the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is coming to O2.” A UK spokesperson for Vodafone told Electricpig that it can’t reveal a release date or price, but says it will be stocking the Xperia Play.
We can also reveal that the phone will be available from Orange in T-Mobile in April.
The device is a powerful Android handset, with a dedicated panel of gaming buttons. It will not only run Android apps, but will play PS1 classics and original PlayStation content from the PlayStation Suite, once it goes live later this year.
The device was heavily rumoured, and even leaked, but was officially acknowledged and announced by Sony Ericsson today. To celebrate its newfound existence, the company has put out a terrifying advert, which you can see below.
More details will be revealed at the Mobile World Congress 2011 on 13 Februrary.
