The 'New Games' section of the Nintendo eShop is looking rather barren this week.

There's a clear focus on old skool software for the Virtual Console rather than brand-new content right now at Ninty HQ.

Well, that's not strictly fair: there IS a pretty odd-looking Japanese game published by Level-5 that may or may not be worth checking out.

Overall, though, there aren't many reasons to head down to your local eShop today.

Still, let's get cracking...

European eShop releases

Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale is the Level-5 game that I mentioned three paragraphs ago. Quite honestly, I'm not really sure what to make of it.

You play a young boy who moves to a small town with his family. He begins to hear rumours of a giant monster that shows up every Friday. If this has piqued your interest, you can grab it now for £7.19.

Robot Rescue 3D, meanwhile, is a puzzle game about guiding automata through dangerous passages and around traps. The twist is that every robot is linked and moves in the same manner when you press the controls.

With their movements all synchronized, it's tricky to keep them all safe at the same time as helping them reach the exit. This one costs £2.69.

Gaming classic Shantae for Game Boy Color is now available as a download for the Virtual Console. You are a belly dancer in pursuit of the lady pirate Risky Boots across hot deserts and through haunted forests. Price tag? £4.49.

And Spelunker is also now available for the Virtual Console, having made its debut on the NES. It's all about delving into the depths of an underground pyramid and trying not to die along the way. £3.59 to you, my friend.

If you haven't tried The Denpa Men 2 yet, there's now a free demo available for this funny little RPG.

There are some price drops in the eShop this week, too. Fractured Soul is now just £4.49, while the glorious Virtue's Last Reward is going for £19.99.

US eShop releases

If you just read about the new European eShop releases above, prepare to experience some déjà vu.

Americans can download Level-5's Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale, too, you see, albeit with a price tag of $7.99. Robot Rescue 3D is also available, priced $2.99.

Undead Bowling appears to be a rip-off of The Bowling Dead on iOS. So, you hold back the zombie hordes by lobbing bowling balls at them. $6.99 for this.

Patrons of the US eShop can also grab Shantae and the demo for The Denpa Men 2.

Back again next week!
