Sony to shut some PSP game servers

Bad luck if you were enjoying an online game of Lemmings

Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced it will be shutting down the servers for a couple of PSP games on June 30th. At least, that's according to the website dbtechno.

As of June 30th, the servers will be closed for PSP games Lemmings (pictured) and World Tour Soccer 2, presumably because they're no longer exactly a hub of activity. The announcement comes simultaneously alongside news many PS2 game servers are also set to shut down, which is a little more expected seeing as the console has now been superseded by PS3.

Hopefully this isn't the start of a new trend. Or an indication that not enough PSP gamers are heading online to play games. It's certainly tough luck if you were among the probable very small handful of people actually heading online to play those two particular titles. They were both released back in 2006, although surely Lemmings isn't something that dates particularly quickly?

As we say, let's hope it's not the beginning of a systematic Sony shutting down of servers. Certainly, we've often been surprised at how little online activity there can be on some PSP games, even when dealing with relatively recent (and popular) releases. What are you all doing out there?
