Speaking with Industry Gamers, SCE Worldwide Studios vice president Scott Rohde said that Sony currently has “no plans” to introduce 3D visuals in the next iteration of the PSP.

This echoes statements made by SCE president Kaz Hirai earlier this month, who slammed glasses-free 3D visuals as plagued by limitations and lacking precision.

Both head honchos explained that Sony’s 3D focus is squarely aimed at the PlayStation 3, for now.

At the times of making their respective statements, neither Sony executive had seen the 3DS in person. Rhodes was interested in the prospect of Nintendo's device, though, saying “It’s going to be a great experiment” in the handheld marketplace.

Rohde also addressed God of War: Ghost of Sparta as being “late in the PSP cycle”. Is that a sly hint that the PSP is nearly done and dusted?
