Sony of America today announced a deal with MTV to make some of its output available on PSP via UMD. The deal is the first Sony has struck with a TV company and will mean series such as Jackass, Beavis & Butt-head and Aeon Flux will be available to buy on UMD for $14.99.

The full line-up is

Beavis & Butt-head: The Mike Judge Collection, Vol. 2 and 3
Jackass, Vol. 2 and 3
Wildboyz, Vol. 1 and 2
Viva La Bam, Vol. 2, 3, and 4
Aeon Flux: The Complete Animated Collection (2-disc set)

There's no mention of European pricing or availability though. Of course, it's not worth importing these unless you have a US PSP as Sony employs regional lock-outs on UMDs.

However, at least, the move demonstrates continued support for the humble UMD, which is arguably better value now the PSP-2000's video-out support allows for TV display.

"This demonstrates our commitment to supporting the UMD video format by delivering what consumers want to watch at the right price," said Phil Rosenberg, senior vice president of sales and business development, SCEA, while watching Johnny Knoxville eat an omelette made of sick on his PSP (probably). "SCEA will continue to license movie, TV, and other video content, leveraging our sales and marketing strengths, as a strategic focus moving forward."
Further MTV titles will be released on an ongoing basis according to Sony.
